急速に近代化を図る明治時代の日本において、忘れ去られようとする武士道の本質を世界に知らしめた1冊（原著は英文）。義、勇、仁、礼、誠から教育・刀・切腹まで、士が目指した純粋なるその心は、非常にシンプルでありながら、奥が深い。その心は現代にも通ずるものがある。

本筋ではないが、残念なのが今時珍しい字の小ささ。なかなか、読みにくく目が疲れる。
